DETAILED Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Leavenworth

Arrive in Leavenworth. You can drive to this mountain village from Seattle or take the train (Amtrak’s Empire Builder train stops in Leavenworth).

Check into the hotel and get settled. Hit the pool or take a walk around downtown Leavenworth. Our hotel is right in the center of town so you are within walking distance to tons of cute shops, bars, cafes, and restaurants, not to mention the Wenatchee River.

In the evening, meet up with the whole Bold Spirit Travel crew for an optional walk along the river in Waterfront Park followed by dinner.

Meals: Dinner

Hotel: Obertal Inn

Day 2: Mountain mama hike

Fuel up with a plentiful breakfast at the lodge before our hike just outside of town.

Bring a day pack, water, sunscreen, hiking poles, and bug spray, but leave lunch to us. Your experienced guide, Caroline Hinchliff, is a savvy backcountry chef. Snacks and a hearty lunch will be provided as well as recipes so you can recreate the yummy magic later.

You will need to use your own car to access the trailhead, or carpool with others in the group. The trailhead is less than 15 minutes from our hotel.

You will hike 5 miles today on a well-maintained trail that is a local favorite. The climb is steady and the trail is mostly gravel and wide in scale. The hike is about 5 miles total round-trip, which means 2.5 up and 2.5 down.

The grade is gentle but there will be some up-up-up to get to our picnic spot and viewpoint. This trail and hike are accessible to most hikers. You do not need to be a great athlete to do it, but you do need to walk regularly. We will stop often on the way up to talk about this special area of Washington and discuss the flora and fauna. (In other words, we will take lots of breaks along the gradual climb!)

Once at the summit, we will set up a tasty lunch and enjoy the vistas. Optional scramble to an even more breathtaking viewpoint for those who want to keep going up. It’s fine to just lie back and enjoy the peacefulness, too.

The descent usually takes less time than the ascent, but we are not in a hurry. Enjoy the walk back down to the trailhead.

We then head to the lodge for some downtime. Maybe a nap is in your future today? Maybe some time by the pool? Enjoy some R&R.

In the evening, meet your Bold Spirit Travel crew for a delicious dinner near the river.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hotel: Obertal Inn

Day 3: ADVENTURE ON TWO WHEELS

Sip coffee and enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning.

Today you’ll don a helmet and hop on an eBike to explore the village on two wheels. Have you ever ridden on an eBike? They are fun AND easy to use. This is not a cycle workout but a leisurely excursion with lots of stops along the way.

On this 2-hour guided tour, you’ll get the lay of the land on a scenic ride around Leavenworth as you experience some of the best views in the Cascades. There will be plenty of opportunities along the way to pause and capture the moment.

After our eBike adventure, you will have the opportunity to enjoy Bavarian snacks and a beverage with the group.

Later, we will check out of the hotel and say farewell to our Bold Spirit Travel group. Enjoy your scenic drive home or catch the Empire Builder train for your return.

Or, you could stay on a bit longer. You can extend your stay at our hotel and see more of this stunning area. Staying one more night will give you more time to stroll around Leavenworth, try out some additional trails, and sample more local wines. Alternatively, you could also arrive a day earlier.
