Trip Overview

All women trip to Costa Rica Winter trip

We specialize in solo trips for women to Costa Rica!

Join our expert Bold Spirit facilitator on this seven-day, women-only, small group adventure to Central America. This is one of our most popular wintertime solo trips for women.

Costa Rica offers all the ingredients you need for a perfect tropical escape: palm-fringed beaches, cloud forest trekking, friendly locals, and thermal-fed spas. This winter, hit the reset button in this tiny country where beauty and the “pura vida” lifestyle abound.

Explore Costa Rica with a naturalist guide who knows and loves the country well. Soak in thermal springs near Rincon de la Vieja National Park.

Zipline through the jungle like a monkey. Spot agoutis and motmots in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Stroll along pristine Pacific beaches.

This is a fun-packed trip with lots of opportunities to connect with yourself, other adventurous women, and this beautiful slice of paradise. Leave the logistics to us and prepare to be pampered.

Note: All tours include a pre-journey planning session over Zoom where you will meet your guides and other participants. You will receive a packing list for this trip.

This itinerary can be modified at the discretion of the Bold Spirit Travel facilitator. If part of the trip has to be changed, we will replace the experience with something equally awesome. We promise!

DETAILED Itinerary

Day 1: HIt Reset in Paradise

Do you want to arrive early? We have a group of hotel rooms reserved for guests who would like to arrive on Feb. 11th and spend more time in paradise. If this sounds like you, then please select Extra Hotel Night when you register.

Fly into the Liberia Airport (Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport). Do not fly into San Jose.

Our private driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to Hacienda Guachipelin Volcano Ranch Hotel, our home for the first night.

We will need your flight details to arrange the shuttle for you.

Note that you need to be at the hotel no later than 4:00PM today.

Once at the hotel, indulge in a massage or treatment at the onsite Simbiosis Spa (extra spa cost), hang by the pool, have a drink in the gardens, and walk the lush grounds. Maybe you just want to swing in your hammock for a minute? This place is totally gorgeous.

In the evening, join us at the bar for orientation. Then, enjoy a group welcome dinner together at the hotel restaurant and get to know your Costa Rica travel buddies.

Meals: Welcome dinner

Hotel: Hacienda Guachipelin Volcano Ranch Hotel

Day 2: Welcome to the Cloud Forest

Wake up to the sound of the tropics! Birds abound at the ranch and you’ll hear their morning chorus. If you’re up early, gather in the garden to spot birds with our guide.

Have breakfast at our hotel and spend the morning exploring the ranch, chilling by the pool, or getting some spa time in.

You also have the option to join our guides and soak off airport stress at the nearby Rio Negro Hot Springs. Spend the morning at these amazing springs and maybe even partake in the volcanic mud.

Lunch is on your own at the hotel.

In the afternoon, our private driver will take us into the lush landscape of Monteverde, which means green mountain, an appropriate moniker for this emerald-hued destination.

Once at our hotel in Monteverde, you will have time to freshen up, explore the town, and just relax.

Enjoy dinner with the group.

Important: Monteverde is a very different climate from Liberia and the beach areas which are often 80F. Expect colder weather around 60F -65F and mist in Monteverde. This is a cloud forest. Pack accordingly.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner

Hotel: Hotel Cala Lodge or similar

Day 3: Meet The Locals

You’re awake early for breakfast at the hotel before lacing up and heading down out to see jungle critters. The best time to spot the abundant wildlife calling Monteverde home is in the wee hours of the morning.

We will hike at the spectacular Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and follow our local guide as she points out hard-to-spot residents. The reserve is the crown jewel of Monteverde and you are sure to see animals. Possible sightings may include agoutis, monkeys, coatis, and many birds! If you’re lucky, you’ll get to glimpse a stunning motmot.

After our hike, have lunch with the group. Take a break to enjoy a fruit smoothie and some typical fare while you decide how to spend the rest of your day.

The afternoon is yours to explore. Visit the Monteverde Butterfly Gardens or stop into the Monteverde Orchid Gardens and admire the miniature petals on these otherworldly flowers.

Have a Costa Rican coffee and browse the shops in Santa Elena or head back to the hotel to rest. The choice is yours.

Dinner is on your own tonight.

Join us in the evening when the sun goes down for a guided night hike to spot nocturnal critters. (Please pack a headlamp for this experience.)

Meals: Breakfast, lunch

Hotel: Hotel Cala Lodge or similar

Day 4: Playa Time

Do you hear the gentle lap of the Pacific Ocean?

We are headed to the beach today for the final leg of our journey. No trip to Costa Rica is complete without time spent strolling the soft sand along palm-fringed playas

Our private driver will take us from Monteverde to Carrillo, a small town with a perfect crescent of beachfront. Paradise found!

When we arrive, you’ll have time to go have lunch at the hotel’s restaurant.

Settle into the hotel and enjoy this spectacular tropical setting. Go for a walk on the sand or indulge in your first swim in the warm Pacific Ocean. Watch pelicans dive for fish.

In the late afternoon, it’s all aboard for a sunset tour on a catamaran. Swim and then partake in snacks and drinks as the sun slips into the ocean. Admire a sherbet sunset. Ahhhh.

After our boat excursion, we head back to the hotel to freshen up.

Dinner at the hotel restaurant tonight as a group.

Meals: Breakfast, drinks on the catamaran, dinner

Hotel: Hotel Leyenda

Day 5: Finding Your BLISS

Wake up slow. Have breakfast when it feels right for you.

The whole morning is free. What do you want to do most? Walk the beach? Swim in the warm Pacific Ocean? Get a massage at our hotel spa? You do you.

Lunch is on your own whenever you want it.

In the late afternoon, we’ll head out to the Macaw Recovery Network to learn about these magnificent birds and see them up close. It is a 45-minute drive to see the macaws and we are sure to spot other critters along the way.

Then, join your Bold Spirit friends in the evening for dinner together on the beach in Samara. Samara is the town right next to our hotel’s location and has its own busy beach. Swap stories over fruity drinks and great views at our group dinner this evening.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner

Hotel: Hotel Leyenda

Day 6: Treetop Trip

Alas, it is time to pack up and get ready to head back to Liberia.

But first, let’s go for one more thrill-ride.

Today, you are Jane of the Jungle. We will thread through the canopy like the monkeys do on a forest zipline tour. It’s okay to scream as you glide among the treetops. You will not be the first or the last!

*If you do not want to zipline, you can swap your experience for a 30-minute spa massage at the hotel instead.

Enjoy lunch at our hotel one more time before we head east.

Our private driver takes us from lunch to Hacienda Guachipelin. Check into your hotel room and freshen up before a farewell dinner with the whole group.

This is your last night in Costa Rica. What was your favorite part of the journey? Share stories and good food one more time before heading home tomorrow.

Swap contact info to stay in touch with your new travel buddies.

Extra Nights: Do you want to stay in Costa Rica a few more days? We have a block of hotel rooms reserved for guests who would like to stay one more night at Guachipelin on Feb. 18th. Add an extra night and enjoy this special ranch and all its waterfalls, hot springs, and pools for a bit longer. Select Extra Night when you register.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Hotel: Hacienda Guachipelin Volcano Ranch Hotel

Day 7: Hasta Luego

It’s time to say “adios” to your Bold Spirit Travel friends. After breakfast at the hotel, there will be transfers to the airport in Liberia.

Take the “pura vida” lifestyle home with you along with some priceless memories.

If you choose to stay on one more night at the ranch, you will have the entire day today to enjoy the grounds or go on a guided tour with the Guachipelin staff. Your transfer will be tomorrow instead of today.

Meals: Breakfast

Travel Insurance

Insurance is strongly recommended for your Bold Spirit trip. We highly recommend that you obtain adequate coverage for cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Your deposit and final trip balance can then be recovered via a claim to your insurance provider in the event that you must cancel your adventure due to unforeseen circumstances.

No refunds are issued 90 days or fewer from departure.

Check out insurance options at World Nomads, TinLeg, Travel Guard, or Squaremouth.

Other Considerations

Our itinerary is subject to change based on availability and unforeseen conditions such as weather or some really cool monkeys passing by!

The trip price is based on a shared room. Some private room upgrades are available for each trip for an additional fee.

Private Rooms: A note about the private upgrade. We know that some women need their own space. We pay the same amount for the room whether there are 2 people in it or just 1. When you get the private upgrade, you are paying for the other 1/2 of that room. This is why it costs more. We are happy to pair guests with a roommate which allows you to save money and make a friend. We have limited private rooms so please select that option when you register. Thanks for understanding.

Your deposit for this trip is non-refundable.

We use the deposit money to secure your hotels and guides, this is why it is non-refundable. Please get travel insurance so you can get your money back if you have to cancel for unforeseen reasons.

Refund amounts are determined as follows:
120+ days before trip: Full refund minus non-refundable deposit
120–90 days before trip: 50% of balance minus non-refundable deposit
90 days or fewer before trip: No refund

Payments:

  • Deposit - upon registering

  • 2nd payment - Oct. 12th

  • Final payment - Dec. 12th

The minimum group number for this trip to run is six participants.
