Top 5 Trips to Spain for Women Travelers

All women trip to Spain and Andalusia.

Ready to head to Spain, but unsure just where to focus your travel time? We got you.

#1: Barcelona

Barcelona gets #1. Yes, Madrid is a great city too. But Madrid does not have the gentle lap of the Mediterranean Sea or psychedelic Antoni Gaudí architecture. To the north of Barcelona lie the secluded coves of the Costa Brava, the strikingly beautiful region where painter Salvador Dalí was inspired to make his eccentric home with his partner Gala. See our October 2023 journey to Barcelona.

#2: The Basque Country

Specifically, San Sebastian and Bilbao. The Basque Country has its own language and is famous for pintxos, little tapas on toothpicks. Personally, I think the food in the Basque Country is the best in Spain. Lots of people agree with me.

#3: Andalusia / The South of Spain

The Spain most people imagine when daydreaming about a trip to the Iberian Peninsula. This is where flamenco comes from as well as tapas (and sadly, bullfighting). Sevilla and Granada are the big hits here. See La Alhambra in Granada, the most visited site in all of Spain for a good reason. See our April 2024 journey to Sevilla & Granada.

#4: The Balearic Islands

Maybe you've heard of Ibiza? Or Mallorca? These islands are a quick flight from Barcelona and make for a dreamy addition to a trip to Spain during the right time of year. The islands are active from late spring to mid-fall when swimming is still good. Welcome to Mediterranean paradise.

#5: NW Spain and the Camino

Most people don't think to visit this area of Spain, called Galicia, unless they are doing the Camino de Santiago. Santiago de Compostela is worth a couple of nights even if you are not walking the ancient pilgrimage trail, and A Coruña is another beautiful city on the ocean in this region. See our October 2023 journey on the Camino.
