Afraid to Fly Solo? You Are Not Alone (lots of women feel the same way!)

I hear this a lot from travelers thinking about joining a trip:

“I’ve never flown internationally alone before.”

If that sounds like you—you're definitely not alone.

And if it used to sound like you but you’ve since tackled a solo trip or two, then you know how freeing it is to face your fears.

It’s common to feel nervous about flying internationally by yourself. A lot of women feel this way at first.

But here’s the thing—the best ways to get over your fear of solo flying is to embrace that Nike slogan and, just to do it. Like most things, solo travel feels scarier beforehand than it actually is once you’re in it.

A few tips to make it easier?

1. Pick an airline you feel good about. Do you love DELTA? Great, then book with them round-trip.

2. Look for nonstop flights or just one layover. Too many layovers can lead to more issues that you want to avoid on your first solo trip.

3. Try to arrive at your destination during the day at a reasonable hour. For example, if you’re flying from Seattle to Naples, make sure your flight gets you into Naples after 10am but before 7pm. This way, you can easily travel to your hotel. Avoid early morning flights or flights getting you in late at night.

Don’t let your worry about solo flying keep you from seeing Rome, Madrid, Costa Rica, or wherever you are planning on going.
