Explore Costa Rica with a naturalist guide who knows and loves the country well.
Soak in thermal springs near Rincon de la Vieja National Park.

DETAILED Itinerary
Day 1: HIt Reset in Paradise
Do you want to arrive early? We have a block of hotel rooms reserved for our guests who would like to arrive on Feb. 21st and spend more time in paradise. If this sounds like you, then please select Extra Hotel Night when you register.
Fly into the Liberia Airport (Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport). Do not fly into San Jose.
Our private driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to Hacienda Guachipelin Volcano Ranch Hotel, our home for the first night.
Note that you need to be at the hotel no later than 4:00PM today.
Once at the hotel, hang by the pool, have a drink in the gardens, and walk the lush grounds. Maybe you just want to swing in your hammock for a while? This place is totally gorgeous.
In the evening, join us at the leafy garden bar for orientation.
Then, enjoy a group welcome dinner together at the hotel restaurant and get to know your Costa Rica travel buddies.
Meals: Welcome dinner, orientation cocktail
Hotel: 4* ranch and resort with a pool, spa, and restaurants
Day 2: Hot Springs & Rapids
Wake up to the sound of the tropics!
Birds abound at the ranch and you’ll hear their morning chorus. If you’re up early, gather in the garden to spot birds with your guide.
Have breakfast at the hotel and then grab your day pack to join your guides at the nearby Rio Negro Hot Springs.
Spend the morning at these amazing thermal waters and maybe even partake in the volcanic mud. *Please bring a swimsuit and coverup for the springs. You may want a plastic bag for your wet suit after the hot springs.
Lunch is on your own at the hotel.
Later, bounce and splash along five kilometers (three miles) of Class II and III rapids in crystal clear waters. Your river tube has special handles and a protective bottom and you will wear both a helmet and life jacket. Local guides will accompany you along the way. This tubing adventure is fun for all ages and is often a highlight for our guests.
Maybe you prefer a quieter afternoon? Opt for a spa treatment (facial or massage) at the Simbiosis Spa instead of tubing and do your own thing.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: 4* ranch and resort with a pool, spa, and restaurants
Day 3: The Green Mountain
Start your day a little earlier than usual with a guided birdwatching outing—morning is the best time to spot colorful feathered friends around the Hacienda. (This is optional. You can also just sleep in!)
Today, we’re headed to one of Costa Rica’s most special regions: Monteverde.
Known for its lush landscapes, abundant wildlife, and cooler mountain air, it’s a refreshing change of pace.
Our private driver will take us up into the mountains, with a stop along the way for a relaxed group lunch featuring traditional Costa Rican flavors.
Once we arrive in Monteverde, you’ll check into your room and have time to explore the beautiful grounds—part nature reserve, part organic farm, and all-around peaceful retreat.
Take some time to unwind: enjoy a quiet moment, indulge in a nap, or sip a fresh, fruity drink at the onsite restaurant.
In the evening, we’ll come together again for a group dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Hotel: Unique stay at a hotel on a reserve and organic farm in Monteverde
Day 4: Into the Forest
Our hotel is a little slice of paradise for bird and wildlife lovers—keep your eyes open, you never know what might flutter or wander by.
After breakfast, we’ll set off with our private driver to the magical Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, where waterfalls tumble, trees stretch sky-high, and misty canopies hum with life.
With your expert guide leading the way, you’ll be on the lookout for colorful orchids, bromeliads, and all sorts of fascinating creatures—plus the chance (fingers crossed!) to spot the elusive quetzal.
This morning’s hike is easy to moderate, so lace up your comfy sneakers and bring a day pack.
Later, we’ll swing by a local women’s cooperative for a little shopping and a relaxed lunch, followed by some free time to wander, rest, or explore however you please.
In the evening, we’ll come together for a group dinner—then the real adventure begins. Grab your headlamp and a light jacket... it’s time for a Night Walk!
If you’ve never done a Night Walk before, you’re in for something special. As the forest comes alive after dark, your guides will help you spot what most of us would walk right past—sleeping birds, curious mammals, reptiles, and some seriously cool bugs.
It’s a whole new world out there at night, and this easy-to-moderate walk is one you won’t forget.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: Unique stay at a hotel on a reserve and organic farm in Monteverde
Day 5: Playa Time
Do you hear the gentle lap of the Pacific Ocean?
No trip to Costa Rica is complete without time spent strolling the soft sand along palm-fringed playas.
Our private driver will take us from Monteverde to Carrillo, a small town with a perfect crescent of beachfront. Paradise found!
Arrive and check into your new home for two nights. Enjoy lunch at the hotel and some free time.
In the late afternoon, it’s all aboard for a sunset tour on a catamaran. Swim and then partake in a light dinner and drinks as the sun slips into the ocean. Admire a sherbet sunset. Ahhhh.
After our boat excursion, we head back to the hotel.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, light dinner on the catamaran
Hotel: 4* Boutique Hotel with spa and pool (note that this hotel offers a beach shuttle and private beach area with loungers, a restroom, and sun umbrellas)
Day 6: Soaking Up Serenity
Wake up slow.
Have breakfast when it feels right for you.
The whole morning is free.
What do you want to do most? Walk the beach? Swim in the warm Pacific Ocean? Enjoy some pool time? You do you.
This is also the perfect morning to schedule a massage or facial at the onsite hotel spa. See their beauty treatments here. We recommend booking any spa service in advance (additional cost).
Our driver will offer an optional shuttle service in the morning into Samara for those who want to shop and look around this fun beach town.
Lunch is on your own whenever you want it.
In the late afternoon, we’ll head out to the Macaw Recovery Network to learn about these magnificent birds and see them up close. Scarlet and Great Green Macaws are some of the most recognizable parrot species in the world. They are renowned for their beauty, intelligence, and charisma. By protecting these birds and their habitat, we can support biodiversity conservation in one of the world’s most biologically important areas.
Later, join your Bold Spirit friends for dinner together on the beach in Samara.
Samara is the town right next to our hotel’s location and has its own busy beach. Swap stories over fruity drinks and great views at our group meal this evening.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: 4* Boutique Hotel with spa and pool (note that this hotel offers a beach shuttle and private beach area with loungers, a restroom, and sun umbrellas)
Day 7: Back to the Ranch
Alas, it is time to pack up and get ready to head back to Liberia.
Maybe one more morning swim in the pool before you meet our private driver for the trip back to the ranch.
En route we’ll stop for a snack break so you can grab a bite and stretch your legs.
Check into your hotel room and enjoy free time in the afternoon.
Later in the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with the group. Swap stories and photos over drinks and delicious local dishes.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: 4* ranch and resort with a pool, spa, and restaurants

Travel Insurance
Insurance is strongly recommended for your Bold Spirit trip.
We highly recommend that you obtain adequate coverage for cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects.
Your deposit and final trip balance can then be recovered via a claim to your insurance provider in the event that you must cancel your adventure due to unforeseen circumstances.
Learn more about travel insurance here.
Other Considerations
Our itinerary is subject to change based on availability and unforeseen conditions such as weather or some really cool monkeys passing by!
The trip price is based on a shared room. Some private room upgrades are available for each trip for an additional fee.
Private Rooms: A note about the private upgrade. We know that some women need their own space. We pay the same amount for the room whether there are 2 people in it or just 1. When you get the private upgrade, you are paying for the other 1/2 of that room. This is why it costs more. We are happy to pair guests with a roommate which allows you to save money and make a friend (we must have two women requesting this to pair you together). We have limited private rooms so please select that option when you register. Thanks for understanding.
Roommate Matching: Solo travelers wanting to share with another solo female can book a private room and request a match with a fellow traveler. If a match comes up, we can move you both into a shared room and adjust the package price. Ask us about this.
Your deposit for this trip is non-refundable.
We use the deposit to secure your hotels and guides, this is why it is non-refundable. Please get travel insurance so you can get your money back if you have to cancel for unforeseen reasons.
Refund amounts are determined as follows:
120+ days before trip: Full refund minus non-refundable deposit
120–90 days before trip: 50% of balance minus non-refundable deposit
90 days or fewer before trip: No refund
Minimum Requirement:
Bold Spirit Travel requires a minimum of 6 guests to operate a trip.
Once this number is reached, the departure will be officially confirmed.
We strongly recommend waiting to book airfare or other travel arrangements until your trip is confirmed. Bold Spirit Travel is not responsible for any personal expenses, including airline tickets, resulting from itinerary changes or trip cancellations.
If the minimum number of guests is not met, Bold Spirit Travel reserves the right to cancel the trip. In that case, all payments made to Bold Spirit Travel will be fully refunded to the guest.
